Anderson Students Participate in Triathlon

It was so exciting to see some of our Anderson students participating in the North Texas Kids Triathlon today.   All 5 of these students completed a 100 meter swim, 3 mile bike, and a 1/2 mile run.  Oh, did I mention it was in the RAIN.   WOW!  We have some fit and tough kids!  Hopefully next year we can increase our participation in the race.  Also finishing the race but not in the group photo, Anderson's youngest participant Jake Kreins.

Marathon Kids is Expanding!

Get the World Moving

I'm so excited to announce a new program for Anderson students in grades 3-5.  It is called the Global Children's Challenge.  The Global Children's Challenge™ engages children at a classroom level to record their activity level, keep healthy and take part in a virtual walk around the world learning about health, nutrition, exercise and the places they visit over the 50 days of the event. The 2012 challenge begins Wednesday 19th September and finishes Wednesday 7th November

The 'virtual' journey around the world has a factual discovery focus, allowing kids to learn about other countries, towns, cities, and the day-to-day lives of similar aged children from different cultures all around the world. As a learning experience, the course locations include information and facts on geography, history, social science, human society, cultural difference, the environment as well as lots of the 'popular culture' that upper primary/elementary students love.  To find more about this program please follow this link.

National Walk to School Day October 3, 2012

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.  Please consider making this a fun fitness opportunity for your family.  Students that ride the bus that day may do a lap around the school with a teacher and parent volunteers.

Swim, Bike, Run & Have Fun!

Whether your kids already play a bunch of sports or are looking for something new, the North Texas Kids Triathlon is a cool opportunity to help them realize that being healthy and active can be fun.  Less than 1% of all kids ever complete a triathlon, and this event is part of the largest kids triathlon series in the US.

As part of our Healthy Zone School initiative, Anderson Elementary is putting together a team for this event.  For every child that participates, we will earn $10 to purchase new equipment, and this is a great way to help us get the new school year off to a healthy start.

If you are interested, we need to act fast.  The event will be held on Sunday, September 16 at UT-Arlington.  Please visit or see Coach Addis for all the information.  Let’s get ready to swim, bike, run and have fun!
