This summer marks the second year in a row that I will join my daughters, Jordan and Alexa, as they get fit and have fun as part of Ready, Set, Blast!!! — a United Way of Metropolitan Dallas community health program.
The goal is to raise awareness of children’s health and wellness and help kids stay active year-round. Ready, Set, Blast!!! boasts an out-of-this-world space theme, and seeks enthusiastic North Texas cadets of all ages to participate. By tracking their activities and healthy food choices, kids are entered to win awesome prizes, like an iPod Shuffle and tickets to Six Flags. The more active and engaged they are with the program, the more rewarding the mission.
For me, the best part is seeing the excitement and pride my girls have each day about being active and healthy all summer.
And that’s what this program is all about — getting kids active in a fun, engaging way so that healthy habits and values remain for a lifetime.
