Today is the DAY!

Can Anderson kids eat healthy for 21 days? FISD and the Frisco ISD Council of PTAs teamed up with Medical City Children's Hospital to encourage elementary students to eat a nutritious snack each day for three weeks. Look for the recipe ideas in a cookbook created by students at the Career and Technical Education Center! The books were sent home on Friday.  Running Club made Sarah Blandford's recipe on page 18 today.  It was yummy!!!

21 Day Challenge!!! Eat 1 Healthy Snack Everyday for 21 Days!!!

Some Food for Thought. Literally.

With childhood obesity more than tripling in the last 30 years, Medical City Children’s Hospital wanted a way to educate students about healthy eating habits. The kids teaching kidsSMprogram challenges high schoolers to create a recipe book full of healthy, flavorful snacks for elementary kids. The idea being, if we can get kids to change their ways of eating, chefs will follow suit in their ways of preparing. Because let’s face it, healthy food isn’t just good for you, it tastes good, too.

Student Nutrition Advisory Council

We are so excited to announce the SNAC  program at Anderson.  Mrs. Kelly's 5th grade students will pilot this new program.  They had their first lesson on whole wheat today.  The students had a hands on lesson from Mrs. McKenzie.  Mrs. McKenzie is a registered dietitian for FISD with a passion for teaching the importance of fueling our bodies.  The lesson allowed the children to sample a variety of healthy whole grain foods.  The goal of the SNAC is to teach the lesson and have the students share what they have learned with other students at Anderson.  Next month's lesson will focus on fruit.  A big thank you to Ms. Ely and her cafeteria staff for taking the time to prepare the samples for our children.  We are lucky to be in a district that truly cares about the health of all children.
