Fun Fitness for the Summer!

While the end of the year marks a time for celebration, it's also important to remind your students to stay active over the summer.  Did you know that only 47% of students get an hour a day of physical activity during the summer? That's what a recent survey by the YMCA and the American Academy of Pediatrics found, and this inactivity can contribute to summer weight gain.

Help keep your students healthy this summer by sharing these resources from the SPARK Blog with parents and summer programs in your area -- and make sure to fit in time for activity over your summer break too!

New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race!

 Anderson Families -

Anderson will be participating in an exciting national campaign - the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race.
This race is challenging America's students to collectively walk, jog, and run one billion miles at school. This campaign will celebrate and connect schools like ours that are promoting healthy, active living for kids. We are proud to take part. You can learn more at www.billionmilerace.org.

In this campaign miles walked and run by students at our school (such as during walk/run programs, recess, PE, etc.) will be tallied and contribute towards the ambitious billion mile national goal. As a parent or guardian of a child at a participating school we require you to sign an electronic Waiver and Release permitting their participation in activities where they will be walking and running at school.  Please note that NO personal or identifying information about your child will be reported or made public on the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race website. All miles reported will be done so as a cumulative total for our school.

Please sign this electronic waiver on behalf on your child here:
https://activeasap.wufoo.com/forms/z1xa42fh1o1khfy/. Should you have any questions or concerns please contact me and/or the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race organizers at billionmilerace@tufts.edu.

Thank You!

Cowboy Video at Anderson! Friday May 15

Dairy MAX has picked Anderson Elementary! We just learned that the Dallas Cowboys would like to film one of the Rowdy Assemblies at Anderson.  It is a promotional video for next year. The assembly is approx. 45 minutes in length from the time students enter, to the time they are dismissed, and it is all about healthy eating and physical activity.   Please encourage your students to wear Cowboy Shirts or Cowboy colors on that day and have GREAT audience etiquette!
