Let's GO ANDERSON NATION!

Thankful for Anderson Nation!

November is here and there’s a lot to be grateful for!

·         And a healthy heart is a happy heart too!  Did you know??...About 90 percent of Americans age 2 and up eat too much sodium – about the same as the number of American adults who own a cell phone.  If your class size was 30 students, 27 on average consume too much salt.  Yikes!

·         Delicious and heart healthy recipes plus tips for having a healthy (but still yummy) Thanksgiving meal this holiday!  Let’s support and encourage each other to have healthy hearts  - including the decrease of sodium.  Click here for the details

·         November 24th is Thanksgiving and most of us will be with friends & family.  Take the time to go around the table and each person say what they are thankful for – kids & adults (& the pets!) – because a thankful heart is a happy heart.  I am thankful for you and for your support of heart health in the entire school community!

Go Noodle at HOME!

This year our class has been using GoNoodle – a fun and free website that helps get the wiggles out. GoNoodle’s movement games and videos get kids dancing, running, jumping, stretching – and even deep breathing – so they can be their best selves. Now, kids can create and personalize their GoNoodle champs at home, and connect them to our classroom using a new feature called Dance Party – it’s all about being active in a way that fuels creativity & expression, and builds classroom community! How it works: • Kids personalize their Champs at home When kids GoNoodle at home, they can personalize their Champs with rewards like tutus, cat ears, roller blades, and much more! • Families connect their Champs using a Class Code Entering your code will connect your kid’s Champ to our classroom. • Your student’s Champs appear when we have a GoNoodle Dance Party! Each Champ is an awesomely unique expression of the student. Awesome! Go to gonoodle.com/class-code and enter this code. Connect to your class and create your own Champs! QW5EBF

Walk to School Day is Tomorrow

About Walk to School Day

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
Walk to School Day 2016 is scheduled for tomorrow October 5th!  Let's Go Anderson!

Fitness Improves Academics

Fitness Affects Academics

Various studies have linked academic performance to overall health and fitness in children. Data taken from students in California show the following relationships between fitness and academics:
  • Higher levels of fitness = increased math testing scores
  • Higher levels of fitness = increased language arts testing scores
  • Healthier lunches = increased math and language arts testing scores
  • Higher levels of fitness = higher school attendance rate
  • Higher levels of fitness = fewer negative school incidents
It is recommended that students do at least 60 minutes of vigorous or moderate-intensity physical activity every day, with more than half occurring during regular school hours and the remaining outside of school. Estimates suggest only about half of U.S. children meet this guideline.
