Fitness Improves Academics

Fitness Affects Academics

Various studies have linked academic performance to overall health and fitness in children. Data taken from students in California show the following relationships between fitness and academics:
  • Higher levels of fitness = increased math testing scores
  • Higher levels of fitness = increased language arts testing scores
  • Healthier lunches = increased math and language arts testing scores
  • Higher levels of fitness = higher school attendance rate
  • Higher levels of fitness = fewer negative school incidents
It is recommended that students do at least 60 minutes of vigorous or moderate-intensity physical activity every day, with more than half occurring during regular school hours and the remaining outside of school. Estimates suggest only about half of U.S. children meet this guideline.

Eating a Healthy School Lunch?

Have your teacher or parent snap a picture of you!

Does your school have student school wellness champions? YES WE DO!!!  During September 26- 30, 2016, invite them to share how they build healthy meals at school lunch or breakfast on social media using the hashtag #MytrayMyway.

Maybe you add green pepper strips from the salad bar to your whole wheat turkey wrap for some added crunch. Or you like it HOT, with extra red pepper flakes!
Every day, you make your tray your own. You find ways to fill your plate with foods and beverages that are nutritious, taste good, and fit your lifestyle.  We want to see how!  From September 26 – 30th, take a photo of yourself with your school lunch or school breakfast tray and post it on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with the hashtag #MytrayMyway. In the caption, show us how you eat healthy at school and let us know how it helps you be your best.
