5K Run for Gabe

Heritage High School and the Cross Country Booster Club are hosting a 5K Fun Run to raise scholarship money to honor our fallen teammate and Coyote, Gabbriel Atao.  Gabe was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in January 2017 at the age of 17.  He was an exceptional student-athlete who was loved by all.  Not only was he a member of the Heritage High School Varsity Cross Country team and Varsity Track team, but he excelled academically as well.  He was a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, student council, and the list goes on.  He volunteered countless hours in our community.  Heritage High School will honor Gabe’s legacy by offering a scholarship in his name through the Frisco Education Foundation from this year forward.

In order to provide a quality event, we are in need of participation from the members of our community.  Our inaugural 5K Race, Gabbriel Atao Memorial Run, will be held on April 23, 2017 at Frisco Commons Park.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could attach the provided flyer to your newsletters and webpage to encourage your school to participate in this worthy cause.  We would like to provide at least one scholarship this year and your assistance will go a long way to ensure that Gabe’s legacy will continue to live on through us.

You will register online, please go to the following website: www.5kforgabe.weebly.com

In order to be guaranteed a shirt you will need to register by April 9, 2017.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration of our request and look forward to a successful event.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Kathleen Moroney at moroneyk@friscoisd.org or 214-912-9895

Let's Wear Red Day!

This Friday, February 3rd is National Wear Red Day in support of heart disease awareness.
Why Go Red?  About 610,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.  Fortunately, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.

That’s why this year we are asking that you wear red on National Wear Red Day®.
By doing so you help support educational programs to increase awareness, and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.  Don’t forget to make your heart health a priority.  Schedule a prevention check-up to review your overall health so your doctor can measure blood pressure, check cholesterol and look for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses.
